The panel will examine the opportunities and challenges facing Beirut and Damascus in their respective reconstruction efforts and long-term recovery.  Panelists will consider which strategies are most effective for stabilizing their economies, rebuilding critical infrastructure, improving governance, as well as advancing minority rights and religious pluralism.  Discussion topics will include: mobilizing international aid and investment; fostering public-private partnerships to spur growth; and addressing corruption and institutional reform.  Attendees will gain insights into the role the United States and international community can play in supporting Lebanon and Syria’s development, mitigating humanitarian risks, and creating conditions for their long-term prosperity.
